grill mat works great with charcoal grills

Is it normal for these mats to give off such a toxic smell when heated to 400 degrees?  Thank you for your question. Our grill mat is made from PTFE (teflon) that is approved for use in cooking, so there is nothing toxic about them. Like many materials (leather, new cars, plastic mugs, etc.), there may be a slight odor on new product. We recommend washing the mats before use to ensure that they are completely clean and have nothing on them. If you are experiencing a heavy odor, I would recommend washing them well and trying again. Ultimately, we do offer a money-back-guarantee on our products, so if you are uncomfortable using your grill mats, please send us a message through the Amazon system, and we will get your order refunded. Do the flames from a charcoal type bbq do any damage to the mat??? We have used the mat about 5 times so far and we see no damages. We have been pleased with this product .

My mats have withstood the flames from the grill. The mats still look like new. The only caution I have is if you have marinades or sauces on your food, they sometimes drip all over and off the mat - this can cause flames and the sauces sometimes char on the mat. It is easily washed off, however. I was using a gas grill, but it had some flames from my brats and it did nothing to the mat!  So far the mat works awesome. Zero dam age from flames.  Our grill mat works great with charcoal grills. grill tools We recommend that you keep your mats at least 7 inches from direct flames. As our mats are designed to withstand temperatures up to 500F, direct exposure to flames should be avoided as it would definitely exceed that temperature. Thanks for checking out Grillaholics! I would think not. I have a gas frill so I cannot say for sure. I do know the grill mats are made to withstand 500 degree temps, so if the flames would be higher than this they would not work.

I am thinking you would not have the grill mat on the charcoal grill when there is flame. You would wait until the coals are ready and there would not be a flame. Then the grease would not hit the coals to flame up. Hope this sheds some lite on the mats. Can it be used on induction cooker? I am not sure, but u think it will work just fine, as I have a no flame grill it is pretty much the same as induction cooker, but the heat it will transfer only on the contact surface.  As long as the temperature does not exceed 500 degrees, you should be fine to use it. We are not as familiar with the induction cooker, so please be careful.  No. It is a silicone based mat. An induction cooker interacts with a magnetic metal to product the heat.

How would you use the grill mat to grill salmon in place of foil without drying it out? skin side down, put a little olive oil on ,it will not hurt mat, season and cook 4 to 5 min at 350 do not flip, close lid, check for little flaky,do not over cook . You can always use an oil based marinade to keep it from drying out on the mat OR our favorite, is to smoke the salmon. That way it has a nice smoky flavor and it stays moist.  Though I don't cook much fish, my suggestion would be when using my grill mat cooking salmon is to put the salmon on the grill mat, then I'd use a steamer lid or a pan lid to cover my fish. Don't know if this helps but this would be my trial or error method.  The grill mat keeps the juices on to of the mat I haven't tried salmon yet but on my steak and chicken I've done so far stayed much more moist and juicy. Much better option than foil and reusable.
